Mariska Stuijt (*1980, Germany) is painter. Her oeuvre consists of paintings in confrontation with collage. Paintage. On cloth or panel she places extremely different images, she tears from magazines and books and she lets them melt together in her paintages, in a celebration of independance. For that purpose she mainly uses the colour intensive gouache paint, that makes her paintings shine. They are discomforting, like stills of a science fiction movie that got lost. ”Art is the last means on the earth to express ourselves freely”, Stuijt states.
She grew up in the Nordic landscape of North Germany, with a lot of space, colour and intense light. All this is so present in her art that it is near reality, but the fact is she moves a planet further on.
